Five arrested in Fairmount Park muggings
Five people have been charged after six muggings of women around Fairmount Park in the last month, police said. The arrests were made Saturday night after two women were robbed while walking in the 800 block of North Taney Street in the Fairmount section of the city. The women were approached by three men who demanded their property and threatened to shoot them, police spokeswoman Officer Jillian Russell said.

The arrests were made Saturday night after two women were robbed while walking in the 800 block of North Taney Street in the Fairmount section of the city. The women were approached by three men who demanded their property and threatened to shoot them, police spokeswoman Officer Jillian Russell said.
The men fled with $73 and two cell phones, Russell said. Three men and two women were later arrested. The men were charged with robbery; the women were charged with conspiracy, Russell said.
The five face charges related to five other robberies along Kelly Drive since March 11 that targeted women, Russell said.
One of the suspects was a 17-year-old male from the 3900 block of West Girard Avenue. The others were identified as Merridi Stokes, 23, and Melissa Sigda, 19, both of the 3100 block of West Berks Street; Gary Lacy-Vann, 20, of the 4800 block of Hazel Avenue; and Sharren Hale, 23, of the 1000 block of Rush Street.
