Cat sanctuary owner to be tried on cruelty charges

PITTSBURGH - An Allegheny County woman has been ordered to stand trial on animal-cruelty charges after authorities said they found hundreds of dead, sick and dying cats on her property.

Tiger Ranch owner Linda Bruno, 45, of Frazer Township, is accused of failing to provide adequate care. She has pleaded not guilty to nearly 600 summary and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.

Investigators say they found the cats in deplorable conditions during a March raid at Tiger Ranch near Tarentum.

At a preliminary hearing yesterday, Gibsonia Magisterial District Judge Suzanne Blaschak ordered Bruno to stand trial.

A Humane Society agent testified that Bruno's records indicate that she took in nearly 6,500 cats in 2007 - almost 5,000 more than she estimated.
