11 pets die in fire at Lansdale home

The first firefighters who responded to a two-alarm blaze at a Lansdale residence late yesterday afternoon rescued two dogs, but three dogs and eight cats perished, Fairmount Fire Company Chief Jay Daveler said.

Daveler said none of the three occupants of the Highland Road residence was at home when the fire started around 5:10 p.m. He said it was declared under control in about 20 minutes and caused an estimated $100,000 in damage. No firefighters were injured, Daveler said.

Although the fire remained under investigation, Daveler said, "I don't believe there was anything suspicious."
