Stranded A.C. window cleaner rescued

The Atlantic City Fire Department dispatched its high-angle rescue team yesterday to rescue a window cleaner trapped outside the Tropicana Casino & Resort, a fire official said.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., fire fighters were called to the casino, where they found the worker stranded approximately six stories off the ground, said Battalion Chief Michael Mooney.

The stranded window cleaner, an employee of Ultrabrite Powerwashing, was operating from a boom lift with another employee. The lift was improperly positioned, causing it to malfunction and tilt over. One worker was stranded in the basket; the other jumped to safety on a nearby rooftop.

It took the rescue team an hour to pull the trapped worker from the basket and lower him to the ground, Mooney said.

The worker declined medical treatment, he said.
