Woman fights off assailant, calls police

A man accused of attacking a woman early yesterday morning in the Point Breeze section of Philadelphia was arrested after the victim fought him off and called police.

The woman was jumped from behind as she was walking on the 1500 block of South 21st Street about 4 a.m., police said. Her attacker grabbed her by the neck, punched her in the face, forced her to the ground, and pulled a condom out of his pocket, police said. The victim, whose age was not released, kicked the offender and ran off, but her attacker ran after her. At one point, he grabbed her by the hair, but she continued to scream and fight him off, police said.

The assailant then fled, and the victim called police, giving a detailed description of her attacker to a dispatcher who alerted officers on the street. Police later stopped Kenyell Worrell near 21st and Tasker Streets. After he was positively identified by the victim, police charged Worrell, 27, of the 2200 block of Fitzwater Street, with attempted rape, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, and indecent assault.
