Man to be charged in killing of man in Whitman photo
A 19-year-old Camden man arrested yesterday is expected to be arraigned Monday on charges that he fatally shot another Camden man during a May 24 party, authorities said. Sunni Brundage, 19, was arrested a day after Jerrod Baldwin, 25, of Camden, was charged with attempted murder in a crime at the same location, Louis and Morton Streets, police said.
Brundage and Sherron Rolax, 28, became involved in a fight that eventually involved 20 people, authorities said. Brundage allegedly fired a shot at Rolax, hitting him. Rolax collapsed a few houses away in the 1500 block of Louis. Baldwin is accused of using a gun Brundage gave him to shoot at a friend of Rolax, a 26-year-old Camden man who was not injured.
In 2000, just before the Republican National Convention, a 1996 photo surfaced of former Gov. Christie Whitman frisking Rolax on a Camden corner. He became a symbol in the debate over racial profiling.
Brundage was held at the Camden County Jail yesterday. Baldwin was held at the Mercer County Jail because his warrant was issued in that county. Bail for each was set at $500,000.
