An Atlantic City police officer and his wife have been identified as the victims of a fatal plane crash in Cape May County on Friday night.
New Jersey state police said yesterday the victims were Dennis McGurk Jr., 37, and Oksana McGurk, 34, both of Mays Landing.
The couple died when the single-engine plane went down in the parking lot of the Belleplain Fire Department in Dennis Township shortly before 8 p.m. Friday, said New Jersey State Police Sgt. Julian Castellanos.
The plane had taken off about an hour earlier from the nearby Woodbine airport.
Witnesses on the ground said the plane may have been attempting an acrobatic stunt at the time of the crash.
Holly Baker, a spokeswoman for the FAA, yesterday said the investigation into the cause of the accident was continuing.
FAA records indicate that McGurk built the F-1 Harmon Rocket and registered it in September. The plane was classified as an amateur-built experimental aircraft.
