Person hit by SEPTA train

A person was struck last night by an outbound SEPTA R8/Fox Chase Regional Rail train near the Lawndale station, at Robbins and Newtown Avenues along the border between Cheltenham and the city's Lawn Crest section, officials said.

A person was struck last night by an outbound SEPTA R8/Fox Chase Regional Rail train near the Lawndale station, at Robbins and Newtown Avenues along the border between Cheltenham and the city's Lawn Crest section, officials said.

Cheltenham police, who were investigating, said initial reports indicated the person may have been killed. SEPTA officials said they could not confirm a fatality.

The person was hit at about 10:30 p.m., on the R8's last run of the day.

SEPTA arranged for a bus to carry passengers to the remaining stops while an investigation into the incident got underway.
