A 46-year-old Delaware man was shot and killed on his way to work Saturday morning near the Christiana Skating Rink in Newark, police said.
Kanubhai Patel of Newark was robbed and shot once after leaving his house at 4 a.m. en route to the Dunkin' Donuts at 4 Macintosh Plaza, Delaware State Police spokesman Gary Fournier said.
Patel, a five-year employee, would often open the store. When his wife, also an employee, and another coworker left for work at 5 a.m. and saw that the store had not been opened, they began to walk back home and found Patel lying motionless around the area of 801 Christiana Road, Fournier said.
State troopers arrived at 5:30 am. Emergency Medical Services were unable to revive Patel and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Fournier said state police will look at surveillance tape from the area for any leads.
