The funeral for Middletown Township police officer Chris Jones, killed during a traffic stop in Bucks County, will be Thursday at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul.
The officer will be buried in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
Jones, 37, died of head injuries Thursday after his police cruiser was struck by another vehicle along the northbound shoulder of Route 1. The 10-year police veteran had stopped another car for speeding and was walking back toward his vehicle when it was rear-ended and rammed into him.
The officer was pinned underneath and died about 90 minutes later at St. Mary Medical Center. No charges have been filed. Bucks County District Attorney Michelle Henry said yesterday that there were no new developments in the accident investigation.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Parish, 225 Bellevue Ave., Penndel. The funeral has been tentatively set for 11 a.m. at the basilica on the Parkway.
Jones was the married father of three children, ages 16, 13 and 12. The Bucks County Fraternal Order of Police has established a memorial trust fund. Donations may be sent in Jones' name to the Philadelphia Police and Fire Credit Union, 852 E. Street Rd., Warminster, Pa. 18974, or may be made at any PPFCU branch.
