Hit-run driver still sought

A Gloucester Twp. kindergartner was struck while riding her bike near her home.

Police are still looking for the hit-and-run driver of a car that struck a 6-year-old girl on her bicycle in Gloucester Township on Sunday afternoon.

Ateehma Jones of the township's Erial section remained in critical condition yesterday at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, police said.

Gloucester Township police described the vehicle as a white- or cream-colored four-door sedan with a tinted rear window and possible damage to the driver's side. In addition to a dent in the front fender, police said, the mirror may be damaged or loose.

Police said they believe the driver is a white man with blond hair whose car has often been seen in the neighborhood. The driver is expected to be charged with leaving the scene after a pedestrian accident.

The incident occurred at 1:18 p.m. Sunday in a residential neighborhood at Jarvis and Wiltshire Roads, near the kindergartner's home.

The motorist drove away on Jarvis Road toward Sicklerville Road. The girl was flown to the Cooper trauma center.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the vehicle to call the Gloucester Township Police Department at 856-228-4500.
