1 killed, 2 injured in Grays Ferry crash

A motorist was killed and two passengers were injured when a pickup truck crashed in the city's Grays Ferry section early yesterday morning.

Dante Ockiney, 19, of South Philadelphia, was at the wheel of a 2002 Dodge Ram on the 1600 block of Vare Avenue about 2 a.m. when the pickup jumped a curb and smashed into a tree, police said.

Ockiney was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers, ages 23 and 24, were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where they were reported to be in stable condition. - Sam Wood
