Donta Johnson of Mayfair walked into Police Headquarters early yesterday and confessed to a fatal hit-run accident this month, according to police.

Calvin Wilkerson, 19, of the 2100 block of North 19th Street in North Philadelphia, was struck about 2 a.m. May 7 while crossing Ninth Street at Roosevelt Boulevard in Hunting Park. He was pronounced dead less than a half-hour later at Temple University Hospital.

The northbound vehicle, which did not stop, was described as a dark minivan, police said.

Investigators believed the van sustained a damaged hood and a broken windshield.

The next day, a woman called police to say her green Dodge Caravan had been stolen from the driveway behind her residence in the 3400 block of Cottman Avenue.

Johnson, 25, lives at the same address, police said.

The minivan was recovered shortly afterward on the 7500 block of Leon Street.

The charges against Johnson include making false reports, said Officer Christine O'Brien, a police spokeswoman.

Johnson is also charged with homicide by vehicle, accident involving death, accident involving death while driving without a license, and tampering with evidence.
