Cabdriver sought after South Phila. hit-and-run

Police are looking for the driver of a black-and-white cab that they said struck a woman on a bicycle early yesterday morning in South Philadelphia and drove away without stopping.

The woman, who is in her 20s, was riding north on Broad Street about 2:40 a.m., police said. The cab, which police said may have been from Olde City Cabs, was also headed north and hit the woman near Federal Street.

The woman, whose name was not released, was carrying a small dog in a backpack or in her bike basket, police said. She was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she was treated for bumps and bruises, and released. The dog was not hurt.

The cab struck the bicyclist either from behind or on the side, and the impact probably caused damage to the front of the vehicle, police said. They said it was possible that the driver did not realize that the woman had been struck.
