Police last night were holding six male suspects, ranging in age from 16 to 52, all charged in the assault of a woman who was dragged from a Chinese takeout in West Philadelphia and gang-raped in a nearby apartment.

People heard the woman's screams and called 911. Police arrested all six at the scene, an apartment across from the Li Lai Chinese restaurant at 5609 Walnut St.

The victim, 24, was in the restaurant about 10:45 p.m. Thursday when the group, after watching her go in, entered and quickly set upon her, according to Lt. Frank Vanore, a police spokesman.

They began to touch her, then grabbed her and dragged her into the first-floor apartment, Vanore said. They took turns raping her, the victim told police.

Neighbors who heard the screaming called 911, Vanore said.

Officers arrived in minutes and arrested all six.

Charged with rape, aggravated assault, and other counts were a 16-year-old boy whose name was not released; Nicholas Glenn, 18; Nyair Washington, 19; Timothy Manley, 22; Teddy Mack, 22; and Michael Garrison, 52, Vanore said. All were still in custody last night.

The woman was treated at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and released.
