Poconos apartment fire displaces scores

STROUDSBURG, Pa. - A fire at a large apartment house in the Pocono Mountains has left at least 40 people homeless.

STROUDSBURG, Pa. - A fire at a large apartment house in the Pocono Mountains has left at least 40 people homeless.

Stroud Township Assistant Fire Chief Mike Seip said the fire at Carlton House started about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in downtown Stroudsburg.

The fire started on the top floor of the three-story building; firefighters rescued five people.

No occupants were injured, but one firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.

Seip said as many as 60 people may have lived in the building.

A state police fire marshal was investigating the fire.
