BERLIN, Md. - Authorities on the Eastern Shore say a man from Delaware County, Pa., has been charged with murder after he allegedly ran over his mother with a van several times on a rural road.

The Worcester County Bureau of Investigation said Steven Frederick Molin, 58, of Darby Borough, had been charged with first- and second-degree murder and manslaughter.

Authorities say Molin ran over Emily Belle Molin, 85, with a large work van on Carey Road on Tuesday. They say Molin called police about midnight to report an accident and told investigators that his mother, a resident of a nursing facility, had fallen out of the car while he was driving.

Molin told officials that after she fell out, he stopped and backed up, police said.

They said accident reconstruction specialists were able to determine that the woman had been driven over two or three times.

The Philadelphia Daily News reported that Molin had previous convictions for assault and receiving stolen property, and was briefly a candidate for a district judgeship in 2001.
