Del. teen, hit by car, dies

A 15-year-old boy was struck and killed by an out-of-control car Monday morning while waiting for a school bus in Newark, Del., police said.

A 15-year-old boy was struck and killed by an out-of-control car Monday morning while waiting for a school bus in Newark, Del., police said.

The victim, Bruce A. Mutter, of Newark, was waiting for the bus on Whitaker Road about 7:05 a.m. when he was struck by a 1996 Acura driven by Malcolm Deshields, 21, state police said.

Police said Deshields, of Newark, was eastbound on Old Baltimore Pike when he swerved across the westbound lane and into a ditch. The car continued across Whitaker Road, hitting the waiting teen and going into another ditch, police said. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deshields was charged with vehicular homicide and released on $1,000 bail. - Inquirer staff
