Two dead after shoot-out with police

READING - Authorities say a man and a woman were found dead Saturday after a domestic disturbance ended with a shoot-out between the man and police.

State police say a Hamburg police officer was responding to a domestic disturbance in the Berks County borough when he reported being fired upon while he was still in his vehicle. Police say the officer returned fire and took cover. He was not injured.

State troopers arriving from the Hamburg station were also fired upon and were also uninjured. The officers returned fire, and state police said in a statement that the suspect and a female victim were fatally wounded.

The Reading Eagle says investigators reported that the gunman was firing an M-1 Garand military rifle.
