Cherry Hill hotel evacuated for transformer fire
A transformer fire Monday night forced the evacuation of the Crowne Plaza Cherry Hill, a city spokesman said Tuesday. No one was injured in the fire, which started about 7 p.m. in a second-floor electrical room at the hotel on West Marlton Pike off Cuthbert Boulevard, said township spokesman Dan Keashen. PSE&G shut off the power before Cherry Hill firefighters tackled the blaze, which was extinguished around 8:15 p.m., Keashen said.

More than 100 guests and about 40 employees were evacuated, according to a representative of the Illinois-based Hostmark Hospitality Group, the hotel's management company.
Guests were relocated to a nearby Holiday Inn Express, Keashen said. The power was expected to be restored Wednesday or Thursday, he said.
Rutgers University-Camden's quarterly business forum, which had expected to draw about 200 people to the hotel early Tuesday, was canceled because of the lack of power, university officials said.
