SALEM, N.J. - A police officer and a police dog were wounded in a standoff at a duplex Wednesday after police responded to a domestic-violence call.

The officer was grazed and the dog was shot in the chest, Salem County Prosecutor John Lenahan said. The dog was taken to the University of Pennsylvania's veterinary hospital.

A man in the duplex remained in the standoff with police after 5 p.m., about two hours after two police officers and a county detective went to the home, Lenahan said.

Authorities believed that a woman and children were in the home, he said. The man's name was not released.
