Rutgers-Camden to get a 12-story, $55M dorm
The Rutgers Board of Governors late Tuesday approved $55 million for the construction of on-campus housing for graduate students at the Rutgers-Camden Campus.

The Rutgers Board of Governors late Tuesday approved $55 million for the construction of on-campus housing for graduate students at the Rutgers-Camden Campus.
The plan calls for a 12-story, 161,653-square-foot building with 102 units in the 300 block of Cooper Street. The building would accommodate 350 graduate students.
Rutgers officials said in a statement that the project would have about 7,000 square feet of retail space on the ground level, serving Rutgers students and the larger Camden community.
Construction is scheduled to begin this spring, and students would begin living there in August 2012.
The project will be financed by Rutgers, according to the statement. Under a project-development agreement approved by Rutgers, the Camden County Improvement Authority will manage construction of the building on behalf of Rutgers. The CCIA is in negotiations to secure the site. Upon completion, the site and facility will be owned by Rutgers.
This would be the first new student housing for Rutgers-Camden since 1989.
"As a rising national center for both graduate and undergraduate education, Rutgers-Camden attracts students from across New Jersey and around the world," Wendell Pritchett, chancellor of Rutgers-Camden, said in a statement.
