The godfather of a 4-month-old Hunting Park boy was charged with homicide Tuesday in the death of the baby.

Police allege that on Sunday night, Marquise Waliyyuddin, 24, repeatedly shook Aiden Jameer Santiago, causing fatal internal injuries, because the infant was crying.

Aiden's mother had left the boy with Waliyyuddin on Saturday at his home on the 4300 block of North Fifth Street, police said.

Waliyyuddin is the partner of another male who grew up with the mother, said Lt. Philip Riehl of the Homicide Unit.

The mother occasionally left the child with the couple, police said.

After the child became agitated Sunday and began to cry, Waliyyuddin "shook the baby violently on multiple occasions," Riehl said, "causing cerebral hemorrhaging."

A neighbor called 911 after someone in the home yelled that the baby had stopped breathing, police said.

The infant died shortly afterward at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.

Waliyyuddin has had numerous run-ins with law enforcement, police records show, including assault charges and domestic squabbles with his partner.
