Three undercover police officers were hurt, one seriously, in a car accident Wednesday afternoon in the city's Logan section, police said.

The officers were traveling in an unmarked Ford Taurus on Windrim Avenue when the car was broadsided shortly after 2:30 by a Pontiac at Wyoming Avenue, said Officer Tanya Little. The Taurus then struck a utility pole.

Officer Raymond Hein, 40, who was in the passenger seat, suffered a broken femur and head trauma, Little said. He was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was initially listed in critical condition but was later upgraded to stable. Hein has been on the force since 1998.

A male officer driving the Ford and a female officer sitting in the backseat suffered minor injuries, Little said. They were expected to stay at Einstein overnight for observation, she said.

All three officers are assigned to the 39th District.

The man driving the Pontiac also was transported to Einstein and was listed in stable condition.

The accident was under investigation Wednesday night.
