A South Jersey micro Yorkshire terrier, "the world's smallest working dog," had a tiny appearance Wednesday morning on Live! With Kelly.
After Dolly Parton, iCarly star Amanda Cosgrove, and a recipe segment, out came 2.5-pound, 3-year-old Lucy to end the show.
For once, petite host Kelly Ripa, who grew up in Camden County, had a guest who made her look huge, as she held the pooch. Owner Sally Leone Montufar said Lucy dresses up for visits to hospitals, nursing homes, and other care facilities.
Lucy, who is employed as a therapy pet by Leashes of Love in Cherry Hill, was awarded her title last week by the Guinness World Records folks. The Yorky, who stands 5.7 inches tall, deposed a 6.6-pound Japanese police dog.
Montufar, owner of the Paw Dazzle pet boutique in Smithville, Atlantic County, rescued Lucy from an uncertain fate two years ago when she adopted the ailing dog from a customer who had planned to take her to a local pound.
Lucy "was so pitiful and lethargic," Montufar told USA Today. "I couldn't leave her. I didn't know if I could save her or not. And kind of as a mother would, I said, 'I'm going to help this one.' "
