She has experience in all three branches of state government.

From 1992 to 2007, she was a Superior Court judge in Ocean County, where she became the presiding judge over the family division, according to a biography on the Prosecutor's Office website.

Ford, a Democrat, was appointed prosecutor by Gov. Jon S. Corzine in 2007.

She also served two terms in the General Assembly (1984-86 and 1990-92), where she was named chair of the Judiciary Committee.

She will become the 16th judge on the Burlington County bench.

"We are grateful to the governor and the state Senate for confirming Judge Ford. . . . She will be an excellent judge; she can understand complex matters and will be very fair," Assignment Judge Ronald E. Bookbinder said.

He also announced the appointment of a new presiding judge over the county's municipal and shared courts. Dennis P. McInerney of Cinnaminson will replace Bonnie Goldman, who retires April 1. McInerney is currently a municipal judge for six communities.
