A Williamstown man was fatally struck by a car after he apparently stepped into traffic Wednesday night in Washington Township, police said.

Officers were called to Hurffville-Cross Keys Road near Egg Harbor Road about 9 p.m. and found that Eberhard Krier, 68, had been struck. Emergency workers were unable to revive him, police said.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 21-year-old woman from Sewell was driving a 2006 Chevrolet northbound when a pedestrian stepped into her path. The driver remained at the scene. No charges have been filed.
