ERIE - Authorities say a drunken man attempted a not-so-great train robbery.

A CSX freight train was stopped Wednesday near Erie after a highly intoxicated man allegedly told the conductor and engineer that he was taking over the train.

Police said they believed that Robert Nerone Jr., 28, of Jefferson, Ohio, jumped onto the freight train in Ashtabula, Ohio.

As the train slowed while nearing Erie, Nerone jumped from car to car until he reached the engine, Millcreek Township Police Capt. Randy Faipler said. Nerone allegedly began pounding on the window and told the crew he was taking over the train. The crew contacted authorities. No one was injured.

Nerone faces charges of public drunkenness and trespassing, police said. Nerone could not be reached for comment.
