Wreath-lighting to honor fallen officers

DOYLESTOWN The county seat will get into the holiday spirit Tuesday as officials light a 6-foot-wide wreath at the courthouse.

The wreath, part of Project Blue Light - a program that encourages families during the holidays to remember law enforcement officers killed on duty - will be adorned with blue lights as well as 12 white ornaments, one for each of the 12 county officers killed on the job since 1914, according to a county announcement.

The last Bucks County officer to die in the line of duty, according to county officials, was Middletown Township Detective Christopher Jones, who was struck during a traffic stop on Route 1 by a drunk driver in January 2009.

The county commissioners and Rick Pasqualini, president of the Bucks County Police Chiefs Association, will be on hand to light the wreath, which will overlook the central courtyard.
