GLASSBORO Borough officials are asking residents to suggest ideas for community events as they plan the 2014 calendar.

The borough council has posted a survey online at www.glassboroonline.com, under "Announcements," where vendors and residents can make recommendations.

Most of the community's events in 2013 took place on Rowan Boulevard, the large redevelopment project that includes a Barnes & Noble store and a Marriott hotel.

Glassboro has sought to revitalize its downtown with the $300 million project, which it hopes will connect its business district and Main Street with Rowan University.

The task has not always proved easy, inflaming town-and-gown tensions among residents who prefer their neighborhoods quiet and students who have moved to new corners of the borough as the university has expanded.

The borough said thousands of people attended its Italian, wine, and craft beer festivals this year. One possible location for next year's events is Glassboro's Winterland Ice Rink, which opened in November.

Borough officials say a 1.75-acre town square will be constructed next year at the corner of Main and High Streets.
