Clothing chain to open on Thursday
UPPER DARBY The worldwide clothing chain H&M will open its newest store in Upper Darby on Thursday, becoming part of a revitalized shopping district near the 69th Street terminal.
"It's a renaissance that's been going on for about a year," Mayor Thomas Micozzie said about the 69th Street area, which is anchored by the Tower Theater as well as the transit center. Developer Ashkenzay Acquisition Corp. has drawn several large clothing retailers to the district, including a Burlington Coat Factory that opened in March and a Ross coming after Christmas.
H&M operates in more than 50 countries. In the Philadelphia area, this will be its 14th store selling low-cost fashion items.
The first 100 shoppers to arrive after the store opens at noon Thursday will receive gift bags containing T-shirts, coupons, and scratch cards offering anywhere from $10 to $300 off their purchases. Shoppers all weekend will be entertained by a DJ. - Julie Zauzmer
