McBlains honored by youth advocates

DREXEL HILL Delaware County Councilman John McBlain and his mother, Helen, were honored as the Angel Champions for 2013 by youth advocates of the Court Appointed Special Advocates at the group's recent fund-raising gala at the Drexelbrook Corporate Center.

The group hosts the annual benefit to support volunteer advocacy on behalf of Delaware County's abused and neglected children.

According to the group, Helen McBlain was one of its first volunteers, and she served as the agency's volunteer coordinator during its early years.

John McBlain has served as a guardian ad litem, representing abused and neglected children in dependency court.

This year's gala raised approximately $100,000, according to the group. It estimates supporting advocacy for one child or sibling group for one year costs about $2,000. - Inquirer staff
