Report: Many Bucks County children still lack health insurance

DOYLESTOWN About 3,300 children in Bucks County lack health insurance, a figure that is driven in part by more than 1,400 children who are not documented to live in the United States.

That is according to a report released this week by Public Citizens for Children and Youth, a nonprofit advocacy organization that focuses on the Philadelphia area.

"Bucks County has done a great job of getting kids health insurance, but there is some room for improvement," said Colleen McCauley, health director for Philadelphia-based PCCY. "County officials should look at ways to get the remaining 3,300 children covered."

The organization has released a list of recommendations to tackle the problem that includes the countywide campaign to make sure every eligible child has insurance and for the state to remove barriers to public health coverage for undocumented children. - Ben Finley
