Philadelphia police are investigating an incident in which a 21-year-old man fell to his death from an apartment building near Temple University on Saturday.

The man, whose name has not been released, was visiting friends who attend the university, police said. About 12:10 a.m., police responded to a call on the 1800 block of North 10th Street, where they found the man lying in the street, bleeding and unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at 12:46 at Temple University Hospital.

Police found the fifth-floor apartment from which the man fell and forced their way in after no one responded to a knock at the door, police said.

The apartment was empty, police said. Beer and liquor bottles were strewed about, and there were holes in the walls, police said.

Residents of the building told police that they had heard screaming and yelling from the apartment, and said they believed the man had been alone inside.

Medical examiners were performing toxicology tests, police said, and East Detectives was investigating.
