Chester Valley Trail to be celebrated

WEST CHESTER Chester County will celebrate the opening of the latest phase of its Chester Valley Trail on Monday, bringing the trail to a total of 12 miles.

The completion of another portion of the trail adds to the region's trail network, which connects 250 miles of trails throughout the Philadelphia area in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The goal of the network is to connect 750 miles of trails throughout the region, the county said.

This second phase of the trail is about seven miles long and runs from Route 29 at Uptown Worthington to Upper Merion Township in Montgomery County. The first phase opened in September 2010 and runs from Exton Park to Route 29.

On Monday, the county commissioners and others will speak at 5:30 p.m. at 1055 Westlakes Dr., Berwyn, followed by a ribbon cutting.

The county is already working on the third phase of the trail, which is 1.25 miles long. - Michaelle Bond
