Board launches new tourism campaign

UPPER MERION The newly renamed Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board has launched a campaign to boost Montgomery County's tourism appeal, a board official said.

The campaign, "MakeItMontco," began Friday with a rally at the King of Prussia Mall, board president Bill Fitzgerald said.

This first phase, he said, reintroduces Montgomery County tourism assets, including historical sites, gardens, and picturesque towns to local residents.

It also will be the debut of the group's slightly revised name. It had been called the Valley Forge Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The second phase, set to start June 21, will try to attract visitors from the region, the country, and abroad. It will include a new website and marketing strategies that are still in the works, Fitzgerald said.

In 2012, the latest year a total was available, tourism and convention business generated $1.6 billion for the Montgomery County economy. - Carolyn Davis
