Artist shares his goal

to connect with others

DOYLESTOWN Nigerian artist Ibiyinka Alao, winner of the United Nations award in art, visited Delaware Valley College and the Doylestown Rotary Club recently to discuss opportunities for art-focused events at the college and for local residents.

Alao shared examples of his work at the meetings and talked about the meaning behind his paintings. He also discussed providing presentations of his work and workshops for Del Val students and Doylestown residents.

Alao describes art as "frozen music" and said artists create works to fill "a hole in their hearts." The goal of his visit, he said, was to use art to connect people from various cultures.

"I draw, paint, and write about whatever I'm able to find, feel, and sometimes understand," Alao said at the college. "I feel that it is healthier to look out at the world through a window [rather] than through a mirror. Otherwise, all you see is yourself and whatever is behind you."
