CHERRY HILL The Daughters of Penelope Nike Chapter 230 of the St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church is sponsoring an artistic fund-raiser for those with Friedreich's Ataxia (FA), a rare genetic neuromuscular disease that currently has no cure.

A "Nutcracker Tea" at 12:30 p.m. Sunday will feature dancers from Ballet Fleming of Philadelphia. Sales and proceeds will go toward the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance in Downingtown, Pa.

The event will take place in the church's Danielle Kousoulis Center, 615 Mercer St. General seating costs $25.

"Guests will be treated to live ballet performances," said Krissa Lazaropoulos, promotion and media spokesman for the event.

Additionally, there will be champagne, finger foods, coffee, a silent auction, 50/50, and even a birthday celebration for the Daughters of Penelope.

Every year, the organization raises money for a different organization. Previously, it has supported Girls Up, the American Heart Association, and Jim Fifis Lung Cancer Research Fund.

This year, it picked a charity close to the hearts of the members, as Kousoulis' 25-year-old son has been diagnosed with FA.
