Philadelphia police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting death of Wayne Ellington Sr., father of Los Angeles Lakers guard Wayne Jr., police said.

Ellington was found dead in a car on the 5200 block of Marion Street in Germantown on Nov. 9. He had been shot once in the left side of the head, police said.

Carl White was arrested Thursday morning at Police Headquarters by Detectives Frank Mullin and Laura Hammond with the assistance of the Homicide Task Force, a law enforcement source said. White has been charged with murder and related offenses.

One source said White is a suspect in another shooting and a robbery, and was on parole at the time of Ellington's death.

"At this time we have nothing we can definitively nail down as a motive," the source said.

A law enforcement source said Ellington, 57, was approached by White on Marion Street on the day he was killed and exchanged words with him.

"No one knows what was said," the source said. White "just shot him one time in the head."

Ellington was a father of three who loved to watch his son play basketball, family members have said. He worked in finance in Bensalem and lived in West Mount Airy.
