Nonprofits get more than $100,000

DOYLESTOWN Bucks County charities and nonprofits received more than $100,000 in donations on "Giving Tuesday" this week, according to an announcement from Delaware Valley College, a participant in the event.

More than 130 nonprofits across the county participated in "Giving Tuesday Bucks," the college said. The event is a local offshoot of a national movement dedicated to benefiting nonprofits in the wake of shopping promotions on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

In all, the college said, just more than $111,000 had been raised for the local organizations by the end of Tuesday. Donations were collected online and on the college's campus.

A separate, $100,000 windfall was subsequently bestowed on the college by alumnus Robin Petzold, the school reported. The money will benefit the school's annual fund and equine science and management program. - Chris Palmer
