Two teens die in Exton car crash

Two teenagers were ejected from a car and killed Saturday night after their minivan was struck by a pickup truck on Route 100 in Exton, according to police.

Two teenagers were ejected from a car and killed Saturday night after their minivan was struck by a pickup truck on Route 100 in Exton, according to police.

The two passengers, ages 18 and 19, were pronounced dead at the scene following the crash at 6:55 p.m., said Steve Benson, an Uwchlan Township Police sergeant.

Four other people were in the minivan, Benson said, and were treated for injuries at Paoli Hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck, who was not identified, was in custody, awaiting potential criminal charges, Benson said.

Police believe the pickup crashed into the minivan as the van was turning north onto Route 100 from North Ship Road.

Benson said it was "very likely" that the pickup's driver had been speeding, but that it was not immediately clear what other factors may have led to the crash.

The teens were ejected onto the shoulder of the roadway, according to a police news release about the incident. Benson said it was not immediately clear whether they had been wearing seat belts.

The two cars "came to rest a considerable distance" from where they collided, the news release said.

None of the minivan's occupants were named, but Benson believed five were family members, and one was a family friend.
