Orvilla Road bridge closed

HATFIELD TWP. A bridge in Hatfield Township dating to 1874 was closed Monday due to structural damage.

The bridge, on Orvilla Road over the Neshaminy Creek, will be closed indefinitely, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced. Orvilla Road will be closed between Independence Way and Clymer Road.

Before closing, the stone masonry arch bridge carried more than 7,000 vehicles per day.

A project to rehabilitate the bridge is in the preliminary engineering stage. PennDot said local access will be permitted during construction. - Laura McCrystal
