Acting Penna. agriculture chief to speak at Del Val

DOYLESTOWN Pennsylvania's acting secretary of agriculture is scheduled to give the spring commencement speech this year at Delaware Valley College, which by the time of the May 16 event will officially be a university.

Russell Redding previously served as secretary in the Rendell administration. He has a direct connection to the Doylestown school, having served as its dean of agriculture and environmental sciences from 2011 until earlier this year.

In January, Gov. Wolf nominated Redding to once again serve as agriculture secretary. He is awaiting Senate confirmation. A hearing will be scheduled later this spring.

"During his time at Del Val, Russell demonstrated tremendous passion for and dedication to experiential learning, the students, and the institution," said Del Val president Joseph Brosnan. "I am thrilled that he has agreed to join us on this important day and serve as our commencement speaker. Each year, we celebrate the achievements of our graduating class. This year will be very special as we celebrate the first graduating class from Delaware Valley University."
