Cosby accuser Constand breaks silence: Case 'doesn't define me'

The former Temple University employee whose lawsuit against Bill Cosby is at the center of newly public court filings says the case "doesn't define" her.

"It's in the past," Andrea Constand told the Toronto Sun in rare public comments from one of the first women to publicly accuse the actor/comedian of sexual assault. "I have a whole other life and I am happy."

Constand accused Cosby of molesting her in 2005 and settled her suit against him the next year.

The suit has been in the news again this week after documents were unsealed. Those documents revealed that Cosby admitted under oath that he gave powerful sedatives to a different woman before the two had sex, and offered to pay college tuition for Constand and another woman who allege he drugged and sexually assaulted them.

Constand hasn't publicly discussed the release of the documents.

"Respectfully, I don't talk about it and I don't plan on talking about it," she told the Sun. "It's a force that is unfolding all on its own."

Despite the media scrutiny, Constand has kept up with appointments at the Toronto physiotherapy center where she works as a massage therapist.

She told the Sun she doesn't spend much time thinking about Cosby but is interested in supporting sexual-assault victims.

She has retweeted messages about the issue and told the newspaper that she supports efforts to implement "consent and touching into our educational system starting in third, fourth and fifth grades -- knowing your boundaries and to respect space."

The former basketball operations director at Temple had alleged that Cosby drugged and molested her at his Cheltenham home.

Prosecutors in Montgomery County said there wasn't enough evidence to bring charges. The terms of Constand's settlement with Cosby haven't been disclosed.

Since Constand's civil suit, many other women have brought allegations of sexual assault against the entertainer, who has repeatedly denied the accusations.
