A tractor-trailer driver was killed and another motorist was injured in an early-morning crash on the Atlantic City Expressway.

New Jersey State Police said the accident happened in the westbound lanes near Route 54 in Hammonton just before 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The tractor-trailer overturned, trapping the driver inside.

Then, a Jeep Cherokee slammed into the overturned rig, which was blocking two lanes of traffic, police said.

The male driver of that vehicle survived the crash and was hospitalized. His condition wasn't immediately available. No one else was in that car.

Police said the accident remains under investigation.

Motorists should expect lane restrictions and delays in the area.
