Man fatally shot inside West Philly barbershop; suspect in custody

A man was shot and killed inside a barbershop on North Preston Street in the Powelton section of West Philadelphia. A suspect surrendered in connection with the slaying.

A man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon inside a barbershop in the Powelton section of West Philadelphia, and a suspect surrendered in connection with the slaying.

The victim, 40, was shot once in his chest shortly before 3 p.m. inside the shop along the 600 block of North Preston Street, police said.

Police rushed the man to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he died around 3:15 p.m.

The alleged gunman turned himself in to investigators at the 16th Police District headquarters, police said.

Neither his name, nor that of the victim, was immediately disclosed. No charges had yet been filed Sunday afternoon.
