An article yesterday about a proposal to place Fairmount Park under a new Department of Parks and Recreation misstated the park's history. In 1855, the Lemon Hill estate was designated, by city ordinance, as "Fairmount Park." The broader Fairmount Park system was authorized by state legislation in 1867.
