GRANTS PASS, ORE. - David Oliver Relin, who coauthored the best-selling book Three Cups of Tea and who said in legal filings about a year ago that his career suffered from allegations of lies in the story of a humanitarian who built schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan, has killed himself.
Relin committed suicide on Nov. 14 in the rural community of Corbett near Portland, according to the Multnomah County deputy medical examiner, Peter Bellant, late Sunday. Relin was 49.
Relin died of a blunt force head injury, Bellant said. He declined to provide other details.
Relin's book came under scrutiny last year, when "60 Minutes" and writer Jon Krakauer said that it contained numerous falsehoods.
