. - Two men escaped serious injury when the 20-foot boat they were in sank in waters off South Jersey.

State police told the Press of Atlantic City that Richard Stevens, 45, of Philadelphia, and Matthew Puglin, 21, of Plymouth Meeting, made a distress call just before 6 p.m. Saturday.

The men said the boat was taking on water about a mile off the Cohansey River in the Delaware Bay.

The State Police Marine Unit at Bivalve responded along with the Coast Guard and other crews, and soon spotted the men clinging to a cooler in the water.

Authorities say both men were treated for hypothermia.
