NEW YORK

Father kills tot, self in plunge

Police say a man involved in a custody dispute apparently threw his 3-year-old son off the roof of a 52-story Manhattan apartment building before jumping to his death.

Police say they received an emergency call reporting two jumpers from the South Park Tower at noon Sunday. Officers found the bodies of Dmitriy Kanarikov, 35, and his son on the lower rooftops of two buildings.

The Brooklyn man was dead at the scene; his son, Kirill, died at a hospital.

Officials say the boy's mother had custody of the child. The father had visiting rights and was supposed to hand the boy over to her at a police precinct Sunday afternoon.

Police say the father did not live in the Upper West Side building, near Lincoln Center. - AP
